Any thoughts on SOHU?

Unlike many analysts, I see tough times ahead for Chinese portals and Internet companies. Sohu.com Inc. faces some tough competition. Sohu is rapidly losing market share to rivals NTES, Netease.com Inc. and SINA, Sina Corp. I expect prices to tread along at current levels for the next 3-6 months. In the short term, concerns over Bird Flu should keep the website and mobile advertising revenue of China online portals down. Bird Flu, if it materializes, is expected to have a greater impact in East Asian countries. I don’t predict a large increase in spending from China advertisers or mobile operators. Sohu is set to announce 3rd quarter earnings on November 8th, 2005. I wouldn’t take the gamble on Sohu.com Inc. I see a greater chance of Sohu going down than up.
